Summer Research Internship for Students

WV-INBRE is pleased to announce its 2026 Summer Research Program. The program is nine weeks of graduate-level research in the field of biomedical sciences. Interns will conduct mentored research projects at West Virginia University and Marshall University. Participants will receive formal research training while expanding their learning experience through workshops, seminars on current topics, mentoring and use of state-of-the-art core facilities.

General Guidelines & Eligibility

Applications are requested for participation in the 2026 Summer Research Internship program sponsored by the WV-INBRE, which will run from May 26 through July 28, 2026. Participation is open to all students who are enrolled full-time at Partner Institutions in the WV-INBRE Network and to students attending WV Community and Technical Colleges who will have not graduated by August 2026. Students at WVU and Marshall are not eligible to participate. Applications from women and members of minority groups are especially encouraged.

Interns are required to prepare an abstract and present the results of their summer research project at the 2026 Summer Research Symposium in Morgantown, WV, on July 28, 2026.

Enrolled full-time at WV-INBRE Partner Institutions
Students at WV Community and Technical Colleges (not graduated by August 2026)
Not eligible: Students at WVU or Marshall University
Women and members of minority groups especially encouraged to apply

Housing Information

A stipend of $7,000 will be provided to each intern for the 9-week period. Interns are responsible for securing housing, but WV-INBRE may be able to assist.

Research Placements

Faculty mentors will provide projects that will introduce students to contemporary research in fields of biomedical science. On the application, students will be asked to list the names of four mentors in whose labs they would like to work during the summer program. Students will be matched with one of these four or another mentor of their choice.
