SMART Core
Sequencing, Molecular Analysis & Research Technology
The SMART Core provides centralized genomic, bioinformatic and biostatistical services to investigators at universities and colleges throughout West Virginia. Supported by NIH grants including WV-INBRE, we offer a comprehensive "full-service" model from experimental design through data analysis.

Full-Service Workflow
Initial Consultation
1-2 meetings
Meet with Genomics/Bioinformatics Core staff to formulate experimental design
Project Planning
Within 1 week
Receive expected outcomes, cost quote, and estimated time to completion
Service Execution
Varies by project
Core performs sequencing, analysis, or provides instrument access
Data Review
1-2 meetings
Core staff meets with investigator to review data and address concerns
Note: WV-INBRE program investigators are required to follow the full-service model. Investigators with independent funding are encouraged to conference with core staff but may formulate their own experimental design.
